Teen Driver Safety — For Free!
We want to let you know that something new has been added to this website. And something important. It’s important because the new information just might save the life of a teenager you care about. Here’s the link and we hope you’ll check it out — and pass it along: http://thehumanityproject.com/programs/i-care/. The link will take you to a new page on thehumanityproject.com. Within that page, you’ll find another link that allows you to download our new teen driver safety book. For free. You may remember that we were working on a book written by teens, for teens, something called “I Care!” Well, it’s done. The book was written under Humanity Project guidance by talented students at South Plantation High School in Plantation, Florida. Rather than the usual ineffective scare tactics, “I Care!” relies on close friendships and positive peer pressure to encourage safer, less distracted driving by teens.
We all know how bad it is on the roads these days. Not only teens but also adults often text or check email while driving and of course many folks talk on the cellphone instead of paying full attention behind the wheel of their automobiles. Studies confirm how dangerous this is. And experience sadly proves the studies are correct. More teens die from auto accidents than from any other cause. We believe the Humanity Project’s ”I Care!” program is a step in the right direction. It was made possible by a generous grant from our good friends at State Farm Insurance. You can visit their website at www.statefarm.com. They’re very happy with the results and so are we. Now we have a group of these same high school students working on plans for a text message campaign and other efforts to get this book into the hands of as many teen drivers as possible. It’s a fun, quick read, full of humor and photos and poetry. There’s even a comic book within the “I Care!” book. All of it original, all intended to hammer home a simple message: Friends can help friends to drive more safely. Please do spread the word about our “I Care!” program as well as the free PDF download. We feel sure that if enough kids read this book, many accidents will be prevented — and many young lives will be saved.
