Kid Connection

Dressed as an "X Bully," we handed out anti-bullying advice along with the candy.
Kids and candy. It’s a classic match, isn’t it? Add in some useful information, some fun costumes and lots of warm smiles and you have a very good afternoon. The Humanity Project was lucky enough to be part of such an event just before Halloween. Our good friends (and sponsors) at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital held an open house at their beautiful new facility in Hollywood, Florida. Of course, we all hope that no child will ever need to go there. Sadly, some children do. When that happens, JDCH tries to make the experience as friendly as possible with a colorful, playful environment. During the open house, several hundred children in costume and their parents came from the community to collect bags of free candy and to learn a little at the same time. The Humanity Project table gave out lollypops along with advice for parents about how they can help their children stop bullying in the schools. We also had a “No Bully Question Cup” for the kids to pick a question to answer about bullying. Those who answered correctly won free passes to Boomers amusement park. Naturally, every child won. But it gave us a chance to talk about the issue with them — and with their parents. We even chatted at length with some parents who were struggling with bullying issues, offering our experience and guidance. It was a productive, memorable and, yep, a very fun day. Thanks to everyone at JDCH for supporting our programs and for including us as they reach out to children and their families.
