Reaching Kids By The Thousands
We’ll keep today’s post brief, mostly because we want to emphasize one key fact: The Humanity Project’s highly regarded Anti-bullying Through The Arts program is on a record pace this year. We’re reaching many more kids in a short space of time than ever before. Just look at that sea of kids in a photo snapped moments before we began one of our many program presentations. The new school year is just six weeks old. In that period, Anti-bullying Through The Arts has taught almost 3,000 elementary students, grades K – 5, our important lesson. As you may remember, that lesson is — “Bullying hurts everyone in this school and it takes everyone to stop it!” We do classroom testing and give suggested discussion topics to all teachers before our program, then perform our 40-minute presentation, then follow up with classroom post-testing and our original book for every teacher to reinforce the ideas. The book, “I Was A Bully … But I Stopped,” has been the topic of much media attention, including an article in Time Magazine for Kids. Finally we offer individual classroom visits and provide anti-bullying AV materials to the school. Testing shows this program is highly effective. It’s another example of our core win-win philosophy of shared value in action — cooperation and social connection as tools to improve life for individuals and the community. Many thanks to our sponsors and community partners for helping us to reach so many kids, including our supporters at Broward Sheriff’s Office, State Farm, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital and all the other wonderful places you’ll find on our Sponsors/Community Partners page. And a big thank you to the schools that have hosted us so far in the 2011-2012 year. We look forward to seeing many more of you in the weeks and months ahead.
