Merry Christmas, Etc.
As I begin this blog, it is just past 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
One of my closest friends is coming over to celebrate the night together. But I first wanted to wish everyone who visits this website — all our members and friends — a very Merry Christmas. Etc. I say, “Etc.” because this group is mindful that many of us come from different traditions and hold different beliefs than the Christians who celebrate this holiday. We don’t care if you are religious or not and we don’t care what your other beliefs are. The Humanity Project is rooted in science and empirical ideas, none of which conflict with any major religion. We maintain that human beings can and must find common ground based on mutual benefit, regardless of religious background. That’s what our philosophy of shared value is all about: mutual benefit as we navigate daily life. So on Christmas Eve, I hope we all can simply find a sense of peace and hope for humanity … and look forward to working together in 2011 to help make it happen. Merry Christmas everyone! Etc.
