Greatness … In You
I celebrated my 58th birthday on December 9. With every passing year of my life, I feel more sure that each individual possesses a genuine capacity for greatness of some kind.
I don’t intend that as some idealistic, rose-colored glasses type of comment. I think it’s literally true. Not necessarily the greatness that brings huge fame and big money, but rather the greatness that comes from knowing who we are as individuals and developing our best qualities for the benefit of humanity. Just look around. We’ve all come across examples of people who were locked in some terrible self-destructive cycle before they found a way out – and used that experience to help others in their community. Or we’ve read about everyday human beings who confronted extraordinary circumstances and rose to the occasion. (If you need a reminder, see our October 14 blog below about the Chilean miners.) This suggests to me that the raw materials of greatness are within us each. We just need to discover for ourselves how to tap into this power. At the Humanity Project, we believe that our original science-based philosophy of shared value offers one new method to begin guiding us on that journey. It’s a practical system that brings about practical results. For ourselves, for those around us and for society. Win-win … win. We have extensive writings about shared value, as well as a program available for free to all Humanity Project members. Shared value is about getting more of the best out of us each. If you’d like to learn about this idea, please contact us. You also will find a bit more about shared value on our “About” page on this website. Thanks!
