Today, eating together as a family has become a rarity. On September 27, Columbia University’s National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse is sponsoring Family Day. Its humble goal: to encourage families to eat dinner together.

Some of you may already know the work of Anton Bruckner. Many of you may not. Tomorrow, September 4, will be his birthday — uh, his 186th birthday, to be precise. Already regarded as among the greatest composers of all time, I actually believe Bruckner’s symphonies remain undervalued.
