At-risk Students Help Stop Bullying

The Humanity Project is all about win-wins. Our empirically based ideas revolve around the concept that the best way to help ourselves individually involves efforts that also benefit someone else. Our newest program is a perfect example. With vital funding from our good friends at State Farm Insurance, we are now teaching at-risk 6th-8th grade students to write their own book — about bullying. In turn, this book will become part of our in-school anti-bullying program for elementary students. Older students struggling to keep up in school will learn to read and write better by helping younger kids learn to stop bullying. Win-win.

The book will be called, “I Was A Bully … But I Stopped.” It will tell a story through the eyes of a fictional reformed bully, explaining how other kids showed him that bullying is no longer cool. Positive peer pressure, basically. The book should be completed by August, ready for the schools this fall. We’re excited about this program — and proud of State Farm’s continued enthusiasm for our efforts. We couldn’t have done this without those folks! Thanks, State Farm!
